'The Space Between Us' Songs

'Growing Paranoid'

Kicking off 'The Space Between Us,' with the lively, punky, raucous 'Growing' Paranoid'. This angsty song was written by guitarist Matt Layson. Having been inspired by 70s Punk Rock, the Post-Punk revival scene and modern indie rock, Inbound put their unique spin on the style. The pounding drums, energetic fuzzed guitars and bass, mixed with a distorted vocal backs up the tense and uneasy lyrics about 'a twisted toxic relationship' and 'fake love' building up to a chaotic, energy filled ending, capturing the paranoid atmosphere. A track definitely to be played LOUD!

'Something To Lose'

The lead single from the EP, 'Something To Lose' was released on all streaming platforms on the 20th May. The song had an outstanding first reception, having been played on BBC Radio London, BBC Music Introducing Solent and Voice FM the day after release (22nd May).

With lyrics by Inbound bassist Ella Jenkins, talking about the song, Ella states that 'Something To Lose' is about the possibility of a new relationship and the fear of losing it. Musically, Inbound take inspiration from Wolf Alice, Circa Waves and Black Honey. The clean, chorused guitars, vocals and production create a dreamy atmosphere and the fuzzy, distorted guitars and bass give the song an edgy indie rock vibe. This is combined with a danceable drum beat making this track a perfect summer indie anthem.

Having been picked up by the legendary radio DJ Gary Crowley, in conversation with a music journalist, calling it "Impressive," the track was played on his show on BBC Radio London.

Gary Crowley stated:

"Wow, how good is that, terrific stuff from 5 young gunslingers who, when they get together make music under the name, Inbound, terrific stuff."

This had a good reception from listeners, with British Mod rock band 'New York Pavements' tweeting:

"That track from Inbound gets the thumbs up from me. Driving rock and a laid back vocal to it as well. I absolutely love it." - New York Pavements.

Steph Nieuwenhuys from BBC Music Introducing Solent stated:

"We do get very excited when we get a new indie name for you..It definitely has that summer feel...they are called Inbound, Remember that name!"

Ryan Galpin from Voice Fm stated called it "a quality track", stating:

"They are an exciting new band, I've been looking forward to it, anticipating it, and it's finally here! I think your going to enjoy it, this is brilliant, big fan of Inbound!"

'Space Station'

Space station was Inbound’s first fully written original song, with lyrics, chords and a bassline by bassist Ella.

Written about mental health and isolation, Space Station uses outer space as a metaphor to describe these emotions. Featuring the ethereal synths and mellotrons played by Southampton session keyboardist and friend of the band Saffet Soykal, (Programmed by Matt). The soft, vulnerable yet powerful vocal line from singer Niamh gets the message across in a gentle manner.

In terms of songwriting, Ella took inspiration from David Bowie’s ‘Life on Mars?’ as well as Wolf Alice’s The ‘Last Man on Earth’. The hints of Bowie-esque guitars, dream-pop and shoegaze genres are clearly heard throughout, with Ryan's 'spacey fuzz' flowing across the song along with David's anthemic drums.

For production, Matt took inspiration from 'Delicious Things' by Wolf Alice and bands such as Beach House and Slowdive. He further added to the spacey theme, by counting down to the launch of the space rocket 'Inbound,' denoted in the guitar solo.

'Jennifer'

Closing the EP on a darker note, Jennifer was written by Niamh, which tackles the themes of being cheating on and the frustration of deceit and deception to end a relationship. Musically inspired by the darker but atmospheric songs of Tigercub, Goat Girl, Black Honey and Foals, the layers of reverb and delay drenched guitars build the song up, set with the unsettled tone and distressful lyrics sung with a breathy, intimate expression by Niamh.
